Founded in 2000, Studio Bubec provides a perfect opportunity for artists to work in a unique environment.
We currently offer 2 to 12 weeks studio residencies for 10 artists. The studio is in Řeporyje municipality, situated in the west part of Prague. The close proximity to a nature reserve called Prokopské and Dalejské valley provides a peaceful environment for creative work. Due to a very good urban transport, the artists have an easy access to the historical center of Prague and all its architectural gems. Furthermore, they can easily get to all the art galleries and museums.
Studio Bubec was founded in 2000 by Čestmír Suška – a sculptor, with the help of his local friends: director Jan Hřebejk, musician Karel Holas, dramaturge Martin Velíšek and architect Ivo Bílý.
Established in the 12th century, Řeporyje is a historical township, which combines ancient and contemporary architecture. It is situated on the west end of the natural reserve called Prokopské and Dalejské valley. In the second half of the 20th century, the township acquired a status as a municipal part of the capital city Prague.
The studio sits on a place of a former brick factory. In 1970 a warehouse for a 'household goods Praha' company was built and the place was subsequently also used as storage for 'Department Stores Priors' kitchens. Later in the '90s the warehouse changed into indoor go-kart racing area until it was bought by Čestmír Suška and transformed into an official sculpture studio.
Studio Bubec covers an area of 1200 m2 and is located on a plot of 3000 m2. The equipment contains: a dressing room, a kitchen and a washroom.
There are two separated indoor heated areas available for two residents and a huge open-space area in the studio's hall for eight more artists. Each artist is allocated an area of about 25m2.
All basic equipment required for work with metal, wood, stone and other materials is available, including lifting equipment for maximum of 4 tons weight - all included in the price of the stay. Special equipment can be rented upon request.
Artists can also use the outdoor space with a solid concrete surface for their work.
An experienced and fully skilled artist visits the studio once a week to lecture and talk with the residents and consult their work with them.
Jiří David, Patrik Hábl, Michal Novotný Micl, Ladislav Plíhal, Diana Winklerová and other representatives of the Czech art scene including the studio founder Čestmír Suška will be the visiting artists for 2014.
